Enter DirectX 10.
Microsoft’s DirectX allows Windows to remain current with technological advances in multimedia hardware and software. This is especially relevant to computer gaming where newer games will require a minimum DirectX version in order to run on a Windows system. But, DirectX is also important to the average user as more audio and video content are being viewed and manipulated on desktops and laptops every day.
Updates to DirectX come periodically and have been backwards compatible…until Vista. Microsoft has announced that DirectX 10 and future updates will be available for Vista only with no versions designed for XP. So, if you want those new bells and whistles in the latest games or version of Windows Media Player, you just may have to upgrade to Vista to get them…
